There was no sarcasm intended nor inferred. It was a straightforward question because this problem has been hanging around for some weeks now.
the good news is that today between 9:48-9:52 BST, yast2 software did not crash... I use the packages from yast head repo give them a try and maybe you are lucky...
It doesn't crash on all selections. It crashes on "selected" files - eg, vlc.
I just checked the first bug report on the issue was reported on 26/04...
