in TW , xfce is usually very slow starting :
if it freezes at 'xfsettingsd' , then a reboot has better chances of success if previously all files have been cleaned out from directory
/var/lib/systemd/coredump
Clearing /var/lib/systemd/coredump provides more disk space.
