Right click on GNOME Power Manager in your tray (battery icon),
No such thing.
select preferences, check what settings you have in there (for both Power and Battery, it is possible to say "Put computer to sleep when inactive for xx amount of time)
I try to add the battery monitor (this is a desktop, no battery), and the thing complains there is no acpi: Can't access ACPI events in /var/run/ acpid.socket! Make sure the ACPI subsystem is working and the acpid daemon is running. However, that daemon is running: minas-morgul:~ # rcacpid status Checking for service acpid running However, the applet is added (it is the only one found searching for "power"), but there is no such setting. I run "gnome-power-manager" on an xterm. It exits, and nothing is seen. I then start "gnome-power-preferences" on the same xterm; the settings are these: On AC Power Actions Put computer to sleep when inactive for 30 minutes I move the slider to "never". I wonder who and why designed a default to power off the machine when inactive. Just imagine a user power off a server like this! :-( - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
