In 11.0 there is basic support ( kernelmodule and utilities) for ext4 but no support for installation on ext4. Will there be support for installation on ext4 in 11.1 ? Or is ext4 still considered too unstable ?
We're doing a massive redesign of the partitioner for 11.1 and I'm not sure whether we can add ext4 support. The kernel and base tools will support it, so installing on ext3 and running tune2fs is one option,
We don't even support ext4 for 11.1 in the base tools. What we have now is basic support for ext4dev, this is basically ext4 with the test_filesystem flag set in the sb. This means it is intended for TESTING currently. As long as the kernel module is named ext4dev and *not* ext4 it does not make any sense to provide any enhanced user space support (like Yast). mkfs.ext4dev and fsck.ext4dev tools are now available in the e2fsprogs package.
