Since a few days (perhaps weeks?) pidgin does not seem to play sounds anymore when a new message arrives. I'm sure it used to do that. According to the settings sounds are enabled. If I click on "Preview.." for a given event there is some pulseaudio activity going on according to strace. But in the end nothing is heard. The control-center audio thing does play sound ("front left", "front right"), so I think parts of the sound system do work properly. Any idea why pidgin is silent?
