Everything sounds reasonable, just one point. Do You think this change of repos could be done automatically? I.e. the compatibility is somehow detected, action performed, user notified. What would happen if user would forget to change the repos and packages would be upgraded?
That's something I'm trying to work out. I'd say at least a notification should be presented to the user of 'Real Tumbleweed' on i586/x86-64-v1 hardware that they have to change their repos. Changing them directly might be error prone - but an option to look in to. Not changing the repos, and having a x86-64-v1 machine will result in an unbootable system (glibc/kernel will be updated to use new CPU instructions) A sample failed boot-process would be something like seen here: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/2882517#step/welcome/8 An extra worry will be 3rd party repos; depending on their setup they might simply start building v2 (as they normally follow Factory, not ports).
