(about update-alternatives php)
Comment: Nope, same as last time: Why throwing away a working solution?
Because it does not work, increases complexity and there is only one supported $MAJOR php version, 5.X the "pear" update alternatives part did some funny things sometimes linking the pear executable with the "php5" executable.
Maybe we don't have that many PHP users, but so far I haven't heard any complaints 'bout our current PHP packages. According to what you describe above, it seems like 'pear' needs fixing instead.
Well. I just packaged phpunit, this time I hope it's not only running but also working. To make it run against the current factory I had to patch down the pear installer requirements. I don't see any point in support infrastructure for any php <> 5.x. It's not a current matter. The kind of people who want to run php4 or php6 _now_ would rather compile it or pull in some special-interest repo. Maybe in our current setup pear has unnecessary tight coupling to the php interpreter. I will check that more seriously before I advocate any move. Let's be serious about delivering state of the art developer tools, base libraries and end-user programs for web just like we do with the rest of openSUSE. (I know I need to improve my own contributions ans practices). openSUSE ships current mainstream kde, current mainstream kernel and current mainstream office releases. PHP 5.3.x is mainstream. Pear 1.9.x is. PHP 4 and 6 are not and won't be before 12.2 Not even sles comes with php4 anymore. -- Ralf Lang Linux Consultant / Developer B1 Systems GmbH Osterfeldstraße 7 / 85088 Vohburg / http://www.b1-systems.de GF: Ralph Dehner / Unternehmenssitz: Vohburg / AG: Ingolstadt,HRB 3537 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
