Even though I remember next to zilch about the naming discussion, I think I understand why 42.1 was named "Leap"....
Announcements about 42.2 development are referring to it also as "Leap". Is it planned to retain this moniker for the actual release, or is a new name to be selected?
11.2 Emerald 11.3 Teal 11.4 Celadon 12.1 Asparagus 12.2 Mantis 12.3 Dartmouth 13.1 Bottle 13.2 Harlequin 42.1 Leap 42.2 ?????
What's next?
openSUSE Leap is not a code name like the ones you mentioned from 11.2-13.2, its the name of the distribution so the correct representation would be. 13.1 Bottle 13.2 Harlequin 42.1 ????? 42.2 ????? The next release will therefore be openSUSE Leap 42.2 and like the last release probably won't have a codename, openSUSE Leap of course distinguishing it from openSUSE Tumbleweed. In the 5 years i've been part of the openSUSE community I have almost never heard of anyone refer to a release by its codename unlike other distro's such as Debian and Ubuntu where it seems much more common. Numbers seem easier to remember and figure out ordering. For example without looking above can you tell me whether Dartmouth was released before or after Asparagus. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adeliade Australia, UTC+9:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B
