I virtually always boot from stanzas that use symlinks. They are much easier especially from grub> prompts trying to rescue an errant bootloader installation. Debian hasn't seen fit to follow Fedora's lead. initrd vs initramfs is a distinction without a difference, except to make life easier for a few and harder for more than a few. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science.
