I may not be an admin per se, but systemd looks like a good thing. It is indeed a new thing though, and forces the user to read new documentation to know precisely how to do things.
The openSUSE reference book documents the clasical boot system and system V extensively: an entire chapter. Alas, no mention of systemd.
And man pages aren't a nice read to learn things, very hard to read. No comparison with the SUSE docs. And they will not write the new chapter for several months.
(yes, there is a bugzilla about that, before anybody asks). On that note, I have a blog that is aggregated by the planet. I wanted to write an article on systemd. However, I frankly do not much understand it. ANd beyond that I want to show it in a positive light... the threads here have mostly been about why people think its horrible, and that wouldn't do anybody much good. So far the only thing I really understand about it is the aggressive parellelization for starting services leading ot a faster boot time. The rest is rather greek to me. ANd I have looked at some documetnation etc. but its not especially intelligible to me and doesn't give me any practical points to write about. Ideas and assistance would be appreciated. This thread will probably need to be forked for that. -- Roger Luedecke openSUSE Ambassador Ind.
