Hey Group; I have a USB Brother MFC 7840W and their custom driver for Linux. It was a RPM and downloaded from Brother's site for this printer, fax and scanner. I call up Yast2 (console or X) and the printer is found under Hardware. It seems to setup /etc/cups/ and printcap. Cups "d" is running according to "ps ax | grep cups" "lp file.text" seems returns a job number and lpq shows it. As for USB - lsusb and hwinfo --usb show it. Plus hwinfo --usb shows a kernel module that is seen with "lsmod" A website showed a way to test it using lptest and that worked for a test page. Where are what is causing it not to print? Sometimes it will wake up the display and says "Rec. Data" and then "Sleep". My guess is it is Brothers problem.
