All meeting minutes can be found here: https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ReleaseEngineering-meeting The meeting is hosted here https://meet-test.opensuse.org/ReleaseEngineeringMeeting ^ PLEASE USE THAT URL WHILE MEET-O-O IS DOWN ## Attendees bittin, lkocman, Dimstar, ddemaio,Guillaume_G, wengel, ## Leap New 15.6 build in openqa Build566.1 Upcoming build will have updated glibc 2.38, I don't expect build to be available before Monday. pagure is back online https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features Interesting ask against SLES 15 SP6 for a perl 5.36 update, in order to use strict in opensuse-distri https://github.com/os-autoinst/os-autoinst-common/pull/30#issuecomment-18261... https://jira.suse.com/browse/PED-7392 awaiting feedback from mls Looking into desktop-file-translations https://github.com/openSUSE/desktop-file-translations/pull/14 was merged I'm not entirely happy yet as some extra work is needed on post-processing raw desktop files from rpms. Temporarily dropped 16.0 from Agama, due to fail installation tests. We'll for sure add openSUSE Dolomite or Marble prior to Leap 16. ## openSUSE Tumbleweed (ana) openSUSE:Factory build fail stats: 53 failed 1 unresolvable (last week 39 failed, 0 unresolvable) https://tinyurl.com/ysy4nnnz Most relevant updates from this last week: * Linux Kernel 6.6.3 * cinnamon desktop 6.0.0 * mariadb 11.22 * ansible 2.15.7 * fmt-9 introduced, default fmt is 10 * polkit 123, sudo 1.9.15sp2 - Sudo/polkit changes with the introduction of a sudo/wheel group to allow the user to choose if they want to use this over the way we configured sudo so far (targetpw). Updates waiting / work in progress in staging: * libxml 2.12.1 (lots of work to do) * dbus-broker as default dbus session manager * RPM 4.19 (work on going, %patch with unnumbered patches is not supported from this version on) * Update to openssl 3.2.0 * kalpa branding ## Richard (Aeon) Not available Still working on "aeon-installer" which is basically a fork of GNOME OS Install/EndlessOS Installer Basic premise is to be a graphical equivalent of the "SelfInstaller", with support for our systemd-boot style images which struggle in the kiwi SelfInstaller Will run from a custom 'installer ISO' that has no direct relation to Aeon. That installer ISO will need to have the actual Aeon image embedded inside it for use by "aeon-installer" Very limited/no customisation - Just finds a disk, installs to that disk, no partitioning, no mess, no fuss Got my forked codebase building, and partially loading an image - tweaks to the image are needed and WIP Once it works on my machine I will need to go through the codebase and remove/replace all user-visible references to GNOME OS/EndlessOS and then submit to Factory ## Bernhard (Slowroll) Not available Moved to a new repository. We don't have signing keys for kernel atm. DimStar: We need Adrian for this ^. DimStar/Adrian: we have to think this through a bit. Continues to roll Slowly, sometimes has dependency problems -> need install-check *soon version bump but OBS issues Adrian: (Could you please add your concern here Adrian?) source-based Slowroll needs extra build power causes extra downloads for users switching between Tumbleweed <=> Slowroll Bernhard: three open issues in OBS bugtracker osc rdiff + osc getbinaries + building DVD with product-builder does not work with TWsnapshot+dod approach = https://github.com/openSUSE/slowroll/issues/1 https://github.com/openSUSE/open-build-service/issues/14994 osc branch -r release counter reset https://github.com/openSUSE/open-build-service/issues/15079 causes spurious "downgrades" missing build-compare causes extra publishes https://github.com/openSUSE/open-build-service/issues/15108 ## Max Leap 15.6 - build stats in Backports: 17(was 18) faild, 7 unresolvable(was 3) * Fixed wrong product packagelist due to changed pattern * Published two snaphsots: 563.2 and 565.1 * A large amount of python package deleting submissions are in staging project ## Guillaume - Arm * Tumbleweed: - Rolling - rpmlint: * openSUSE:Factory:ARM now part of https://rpmlint.opensuse.org/ * we noticed that rpmlint does not check anymore for packages built without distro %{optflags}. We should add it back. https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1217840 - WIP to get Tumbleweed to run on Lenovo X13s: * DVD image boots ok from USB, but still few bugs preventing to boot installed system on USB (ok on NVMe). * JeOS and live images (at least Rescue Image) are now working (boot from USB) * Audio is now also working (since snapshot 20231203) (Still broken on live images?) * Battery monitoring has been reported to be working on installed system (with pd-mapper.service), but seems broken on Live images. * Latest status available at https://en.opensuse.org/HCL:ThinkpadX13s * Leap 15.6/Backports SP6: - gnome-maps has been fixed (thanks Dominique!) - https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1216184 ## Sarah - s390x Not available ## Doug * Logo contest * Live at https://survey.opensuse.org/ * Ends Dec. 11. * Next steps/voice opinion - https://news.opensuse.org/2023/12/05/journey-of-os-rebrand/ * Meet to go over winning designs next week at 14:30 UTC on Tuesday * 6277 votes as of 10:12 06.12.23 lkocman: WOW! ^ * 3rd Bar anniversary * Dec. 19 starting at noon UTC * https://news.opensuse.org/2023/12/04/community-plans-virtual-bar-anniversary... * Infra * Various items are down * Board chair to disucss status & find possible solutions with SUSE infra * TSP * Still having some issues resolving payment * Board elections * Extended by 2 weeks * Sponsoring of CLT Static * oSC24 dates June 27 to 29 reserved (Thursday - Saturday) * FOSDEM Bus Connect ddemaio@opensuse.org if you're in the Nuremberg area * AI topics (static) ## Dirk Not available Further work on python 3.12 enablement preps for Factory, submitted about ~ 35 updates Working on python 3.6 removal in SP6 Package Hub ## Wolfgang (Package Hub), Scott Bahling No topics for today task for lkocman: The problem statement (SLES/SLED expectations) Draft to be composed here: https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/packagehub-problem-statement ## Maintenance team (Marcus or Maurizio (m4u)) HEADS UP! Leap 15.4 EOL on Dec 31st 2023 Updated lkocman: will look into openSUSE-welcome to announce when a release is almost/is EOL Confirmed that maintenance setup for Leap 15.6 will be with Public Beta (~February 2024) Max: php81, SLES 15 SP6 seem to have already php82. Marcus: Let's not add php81 into 15.6 since php82 is out. No issues. Internal request to add php8.1 to Package HUB.
