What specific part of printer configuration should a user be able to do without authentication? Network printers
Network printers???
What about http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell "Intrinsic design of CUPS for printing in the network"
What is the original end-user requirement behind?

Might sound a bit strange for an expert, but i think what is meanth is: A printer is connected, people need to print and want the hardware found by the software, recognised, and installed, with less possible interaction or/and choices, Which means: Someone pushes whatever printbutton, and the printer starts printing. Recognised, drivers downloaded, installed, visible in a network, and useable in a network. It should be enough, to plugin the printer, wait until the software has set-up the hardware, and asks the user if he/she wants to print a testpage..( an icon could show, that everything is ok) If not, i would happy to be corrected.... - -- Have a nice day, M9.
