Try renaming /etc/resolv.conf - restart networkmanager / or reboot and see if that makes a diff.
works like a charm, thank you. /etc/resolv.conf was new, timestamp from today, but completely empty. I was deleting it, and after a reboot name resolving is working again.
When this kind of problem occurs, I find it helpful to do something akin to triage. (1) See if the network is working by pinging the gateway. (2) Ping some network location using its IP number. My choice is 216.83.154.106 (www.samba.org). (3) Finally ping by name. If all 3 work, but some application does not, the problem is with the application. If 1 and 2 work, but not 3, it is a nameserver problem. If 1 works but not 2, then there is a problem between the router and the Internet. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
