I am using my recently updated laptop now... It was 13.1, now it is Tumbleweed. I have a LOT of repositories from build services (including XOrg and Kernel), and I had a lot of repositories that I only had a single one or two things from. I found the tumbleweed version of each repo and switched to it, but then disabled (moved out or /etc/zypp/repos.d) all except the main ones. mod-perl gave me a few issues, so I uninstalled it before the upgrade. After this I added the rest in one at a time and migrate to them as time goes on. After upgrading and due to having a lot of repos, I "zypper up" instead of "zypper dup" where possible to stop swapping to whatever repo has the highest version (that can cause issues). I still get some file conflicts with old stuff that was installed, but I have been able to safely just say "yes" to that question (most of it is language packs for some reason). My desktop had to be completely redone as all settings had changed. I run on an SSD with trim support (and deadline I/O scheduler), have hybrid graphics, use bluetooth, have many older 32-bit legacy proprietary apps installed, use serial, use virtualisation, use complex network setups, run all sorts of apps and I generally have few issues. OpenSuse Tumbleweed is awesome. Except for Plasma 5's lack of screen savers, and there seems to be a lack of telephony support, and you have to add some fairly non-free repositories to make your fonts render nicely, I have found it very stable (except for an update that killed radeon - but that was from XOrg not from OSS and my primary card is Intel). -- Ben Ben Holmes Customer Engineer Interactive Pty Ltd Telephone +61 7 3323 0800 Facsimile +61 7 3323 0899 Mobile +61 421 406 456 www.interactive.com.au ------Confidentiality & Legal Privilege------------- "This email is intended for the named recipient only.
