Of course it should be mentioned in the release notes. So if, hypothetically, the decision is to keep this setting, I will care about having a corresponding section in the release notes.
A user that is not the admin of the (home) machine will not have read the release notes. If you keep that setting it must be announced to each user.
Plus, the user might be a KDE user, which one days switches to gnome to try it. Bingo! Lost data.
