You've said yourself you didn't know what would happen when Plasma 5.3 makes it into Tumbleweed.
I said I'm not sure how zypper (dup in particular) will react because of the Obsoletes in the standard packages. And I don't know how exactly the patterns look like now, but I suppose they should just install the Plasma5 packages from my repo anyway instead if you added it with a higher priority, which will not replace/conflict with KDE4. And you can of course also just uninstall the patterns as well.
I guess it's worth a try to enable that repo on my test machine and prioritise it over Tumbleweed,
I'm going to give it a try myself in a VM tomorrow, and will try make necessary adjustments if necessary.
but that would only work if you provide at least the KDE4 session stuff from that repo as well, I'd think (since I already did the update there and have no way to go back).
You mean kdebase4-session? That's also still available in the standard Tumbleweed repo AFAICS. And my plasma5-session does not replace/overwrite it. But yes, if necessary I will add it to my repo too. Just a note: For applications, the convention in my repo is that the KF5-based ones contain a '5' in the package name, whereas the KDE4-based ones are named like in the past. So e.g. kate in my repo is the KDE4 version, whereas kate5 is the KF5-based one. And all packages with a "git" in the version number are development snapshots. I do use the stable releases though where available. Another note: the packages are branched from the "official" openSUSE KDE repos, so they should be just as stable and get fixes/patches at the same time.
