A few observations:
* no fast preview scan that I could find
I have to scan in full resolution just to find out that the paper got out of place when closing the scanner cover? Already that sounds like a showstopper to me.
* no colour/gamma correction
Not a real problem, but doing it directly in the scan (with better color depth available?) can be an advantage.
* no selectable scanning area
Another showstopper - my (quite old) scanner is damm-slow and I would go crazy if I had to scan a full page in color mode just to get a 5x5 cm area... Another question: I always use the xsane integration in GIMP. Is there a similar integration for simple-scan?
