I have taken the usual normal route of upgrading - I have been taken to Kernel 5.9.10-1-default
So far, I have not personally experienced any of the X11 Server desktop lockups on my Intel PC However, i am wondering if - maybe - this second issue could be related ? I use the browser SeaMonkey, and while i often have at least 100 TABs open, and email checks running in the background on at least 10 different emails address'es - my ability to quickly close seamonkey down efficiency (window close button in top right-hand corner) has always been just fine
however, on both kernel v5.9 and now 5.9.10-1-default is that Im getting the desktop effect called "Desaturate Unresponsive Applications" almost all the time, now whenever i close seamonkey, along with a small windows asking me if i want to quit or wait for the app to respond
Seamonkey is constantly updated as well - so i do keep that in mind
Im proposing the idea that maybe there is/are some issues of degraded efficiency withon code in either the kernel and/or some of the other system packages that get updated - inefficiencys that perhaps could cause these side effects of inefficiency of apps (in my case seamonkey) and a timing issue which ends up resulting in a desktop freeze
Should what i have noticed be made a separate issue ?
I think so. There are already two separate issues discussed here.
Best regards Thomas
Either a separate issue here via email and/or me creating an official opensuse forum thread

Well, if resolving means restarting the display manager then yes. But I don't want to restart my display manager every few minutes.
I am just trying to establish how hard the "lockup" is on your side.
It happens every few minutes. For example, I'm typing this email and all of a sudden, the whole desktop locks up and I won't be able to type or move the mouse.
Shortly after, it will just continue as if nothing happened. Sometimes the lock ups can be much longer and the desktop freezes for half a minute or so.
Rebooting into a 5.8.x kernel made the issue go away, but zypper has purged the last 5.8.x off my disk now :-(.
I will check whether OBS has any 5.10 RC kernel I can test.
I can still reproduce the issue with 5.10-rc5.
Best regards Thomas
