I haven't changed anything from 11.4. A little history:
upgraded 11.4 to 12.1 via: zypper dup --from tumbleweed
Hum! You might be closer to factory than to 12.1, depending on when you did that.
very few small hickups, except automagical mounting of removable devices. I get by using pmount and adding myself to /etc/pmount.conf but need to look at dmesg to determine device if not cd/dvd.
I've never used pmount, so I don't know if it needs /media.
I also have two other systems that I did a fresh install of 12.1, one to factory, the other to tumbleweed. Both tumbleweed systems have the same problem, but the 12.1/2-Factory system does not. It works as expected.
