That seems to be the sane way out there. I don't think we want to keep supporting KDE3 when 13.2 was the last release to ship it. EOL 6y ago.
Slowroll is just meant to be a variant of TW/Factory that moves slower to hopefully cause less bugs along the way, but it won't magically support things that TW doesn't.
Somebody is providing KDE3 for Leap and TW in oSBS[*]. :-D My current primary is 15.5, running KDE3 ever since I started using SUSE with 8.0. I have 12 64bit KDE3 installations on TW, a smaller bunch on 32bit, and 6 TW/Plasma installations using KDM3 instead of that SDDM crippler that I suffer on 2 TW/Plasmas. As was with Leap Alpha/Beta, I'll have close to half my two-dozen+ 15.6s with KDE3 by the time of 15.6 GM. These are all on hardware multiboot, no VMs except for running DOS SVGA text mode on OS/2.
They'd also need to build that repo against slowroll, anything else is likely to have issues.
