Maybe I read this on openFate and/or the forums about adding this in a future release. This couldn’t be any different than Libre Office could it?
It is very different, Multimedia codecs, are unfortunately widely patented
So why can't VLC be added in crippled form like amaroK and then users have to replace it with Packman version, etc?
A crippled version of vlc and the vlc phonon backend already exist in the KDE:Unstable:Playground repo. An additional benefit of including vlc is that it would also make it possible to ship the webcam application kamoso. I have already added these ideas to the 11.4 KDE idea page: en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:KDE_ideas So now we just need someone to submit them to factory and maintain them there. But in order to really make sense, I guess the cribbled vlc should be fully and easily replacable with the packman version - also when newer vlc releases arrive at packman. I'm not sure about what the levels of API and ABI changes are for vlc. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
