boot, try the dracut initramfs It fails => boot again, use the initrd.
If only one is installable, at least I will certainly not install dracut until several people I trust have told me that it really works in all cases.
And the "non essential for opensuse" cases you mention -- like kdump -- are actually very essential for many people.
