That will certainly be helpful, unfortunately it does not fix anything.
Well, if you want to "fix" things then fix them explicitely. By for example appending -std=gnu99 to RPM_OPT_FLAGS. Ok I know that will not work, but consider adding a switch like -fgnu that just switches the dialect flavor (which might even be upstreamable).
