Especially, if I do not have to use one of them (for root) that often. So I am always tempted to use a weak one for root, or I have to write it down.

You can open console and log in as root and start all programs that need root access from there. IMHO Ubuntu's idea with sudo is not good, as it is enticing users to use short root passwords, which is counter productive.
