According to 3.10 release notes:
"GNOME 3.10 includes a brand new application for finding and installing applications, called Software. It provides an integrated place to do all your software related tasks, like browsing, installing and removing applications, and viewing and installing software updates."
Is it supposed to be replacement for YOU and other software related tasks?
Replacement? probably not, but as an alternative gnome-software does provide a pretty snazzy 'app store'-like interface, which I think makes it the best option for 'discovering' new software you might otherwise not know was available - YaST software management often works best when you know what you're looking for, and has much more control for things such as selecting specific versions and learning the details about a package Please note, gnome-software in GNOME 3.10 and currently packaged in GNOME:Factory/13.1 is provided by both upstream and openSUSE as a 'tech preview' - I've tested it and it 'works', but we're not installing it as part of the default openSUSE GNOME installation In fact, if you do chose to install gnome-software, please note that this will automatically install packagekit-branding-upstream which alters your PackageKit settings - this is to enable Packagekit to populate the database which gnome-software requires, but results in a really, really, really long first refresh of PackageKit, which we normally avoid with the default settings provided by packagekit-branding-openSUSE Hope this helps -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
