could you say the number you are trying to switch to and if it does not work on 1 to 6? 1 to 6 work for me, 12 works since is dumps journal, others do not (though i have never tried them before) FYI, I have the very same problem with Nvidia. Also no switch (and it does not work nor with F1-F6 nor others. It simply seems getty does not run, did not check however.
Log in via ssh, and use `chvt 1` / `chvt 7` to switch between ttys; at the same time, look in the process list if the fitting getty gets spawned.
