Since upgrading to Plasma 5.3 from KDE4 Tumbleweed, should my system be using KDM or SDDM? Or does it not matter.
It doesn't matter really. You could even use GDM or lightdm...
Thanks
Except that SDDM still lacks features compared to KDM, like Remote Login e.g. OTOH, SDDM will look more integrated with Plasma5 as it uses the same "Breeze" theme by default.
In case you didn't know: you can have more than one display manager installed and switch between them in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager ("DISPLAYMANAGER").
i did check there but SDDM doesn't appear in the list of options. It only shows kdm, kdm3, kdm4, xdm, gdm, wdm, entrance, console. What led me to the question was that i discovered if you use "kdm", you have to use "the KDE4 "Configure Desktop" to mess with the login dialog, i suddenly had all the system users in my login list and i couldn;t get them to go away without using "Configure Desktop". Everyone had more or less said use "System Settings" instead of "Configure Desktop", looks like you have to use a mix of the two.
Kind Regards, Wolfgang
