Well, denyhosts's last modified is 2008. While fail2ban has arguably the worse home page it's way more maintained upstream.
ossec hids is actively maintained, open source and does the same and much more: https://www.ossec.net/
An open source project with a Development Manager - not sure I've seen this before. But openSUSE doesn't seem to have this - and server:monitoring only an outdated version 2 years old. So not used?
