This I agree with and I mentioned this to Jan in the email that then spawned this thread. If the yast team decides they don't want to re implement such a view or if they decide they only want to do it with appstream meta data as some other desktops and distro's are doing we are right back at there being no point for this discussion.
yast may be considered _the_ system software, but it's not _the only_ system management software. I think you need to step back from trying to make the outcome all dependent on yast alone. A hypothetical outcome is that the yast team does not want to implement _the (shunned) view_ in yast, and other contributors do not want to spend their time implementing a view _in (shunned) yast_, then that would then be that.
Yast is the system manager software that is currently and would be used by most users interested in Yast, most people aren't going to know to look for some other software to browse groups. If Yast is never going to support groups again then personally I don't think the cost that will be bore by the rest of the project maintainers and infrastructure is worth it for the one or two people interested in implementing the feature. There are many many others on and off this list that tend to agree hence the decision over a year ago to drop the use of groups. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B
