User donn not root. Tried it again after ldconfig and SuSEconfig as root and back to X as donn and it worked
hm, I guess ldconfig did it, since I don't think SuSEconfig does anything for KDE these days. The error messages don't support that though, if ldconfig hadn't been run, you would have seen messages about libraries not being found, not that dbus didn't provide a reply. If it doesn't work after the next update, you should file a bug report.
