I think the problem is that hardware and software life cycles >> have long decoupled themselves from each other. Ten-year-old PC >> hardware is typically not old, but a 10-month-old web browser >> might well be.
That is a VERY VALID point and a big change from when I started working with computers back in the mid 1980's! I think that is a big reason why people are pushing back on this change which does not seem to consider that point. Also reading the benchmarks that others have done it does not seem like there is much benefit to the change going with v2. I've been following this ongoing discussion since it started. I noticed several people talk about their old Core2Duo machines that are still working reasonable well. I also have one of those Core2Duo machines which was updated to add and SSD and memory updated to 6 GB. It is currently running Windows 10 but I had planned to move it to TW at some point in the future but I would go with a different distro as I wouldn't want to run 32 bit OS on it. Regards, Joe
