Hi there,
osnews.com has a news article on a presentation of the next Novell Linux Desktop with some videos which present the new features of the GNOME desktop used in NLD (http://www.linuxedge.org/?q=node/55).
GREAT DEMO: When trying to view video I with GNOME of 10.0 (using the defaulöt application, totem), I get (German L18n) "Totem konnte
file:///tmp/NLD_SL_conf_1.avi<< nicht wiedergeben. There were no decoders found
to handle the stream, you might need to install the corresponding plugins."
Great isn't it: For legal reasons, Novell/SuSE doesn't ship an reasonable audio/video decoders, but still publishes videos with proprietary formats like AVI that Novell/SuSE's own distributions are unable to present.
I just want to point out that theora is a powerfull codec. Yes we ship encoder and decoder and xine/kaffeine does support it. bye adrian -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nuernberg, Germany email: adrian@suse.de
