Hey guys, the tone in this list is getting annoying. Calm down, please, everybody. May be I'm getting old, but there was a time when technical decisions were discussed without leaving an insult here and there ... Have fun! Secondly, I'm not sure which part of this you think is a very requested feature.
Look at: https://features.opensuse.org/ Second most voted for feature
No matter your opinion of openFATE, it is where the community has agreed to post features and vote on them.
Well, reading the comments, the feature actually requested is for a flicker- free boot sequence, and that is something I can agree with, I certainly don't have a problem with that.
It sure doesn't look that way.
I just think we may be leaving regular users behind for ideological reasons when we say that users of the only properly working nvidia driver can forget support, they'll have to take what they get.
Why are you still beating around that bush? Get a Fedora, install it and install nvidia driver and then please spare us the FUD.
I think it should be possible to detect when there is a kms capable driver, and use plymouth then, and fall back to bootsplash/splashy/whatever to provide
Why would you want bootslash when plymouth is superior? Is it so hard to understand that if you have KMS driver present you get native resolution since plymouth is loaded into memory (no more mode changes), if you don't, you have to specify native resolution with vga= on the kernel command line and the screen will change mode 1 time. Plymouth always works. There's no need to fallback or anything else... and if by historical reasons or pure fetichism you don't want plymouth, you can still disable.
Start listening to people. Do you know what 'functional analphabetism' is? It's when people regardless of their academical degree fail hard in understanding simple things. Fo
a nice graphical boot sequence for everyone. I don't object to plymouth, I object to dropping the standard bootsplash by default
You can't have both... You are 1, the voter community is a few hundreds. If this is a true democracy, then you loss... have a nice day.
