online_update is gone and that's OK for me. rug replaces its functionality, and there are alternatives available. But the other ones are missing while needed: Their absense breaks the "Install package with YaST" and "Add directory as a YaST source" features of kdebase3-SuSE.
genIS_PLAINcache is probably obsoleted by createrepo.
Either this or use "rug mount" to directly access a directory of .rpm files.
Hm, "rug mount" - interesting and nice feature. But why is it a rug feature and not a libzypp feature that all libzypp-based applications will automatically inherit? May I naively ask if the impression that rug and YaST are sharing less code than they should is somewhat correct? This point - if correct, which I don't know - really concerns me. There seems to be a fair amount of duplication and, equally problematic, missing duplication which leads to interesting results like YaST calling rug in order to add a YaST source. The naive proposal would be more code sharing, ideally the result would be innovative features like "rug mount" becoming available in YaST with minimal extra effort. Is that feasible? Maybe even already planned? Andreas Hanke
