You could combine rsync with a snapper configuration for the external disk. Call "snapper create ..." after every rsync run, and you are done. Assuming your external disk has a VolumeLabel as "BienersBtrfsBackup" and would mount to /mounts/BienersBtrfsBackup, you would do: 1. Before using the first time: create the config: snapper -c BienersBtrfsBackup create-config /mounts/BienersBtrfsBackup 2. After every rsync run: snapper -c BienersBtrfsBackup create -d "Whatever you want to tell" Bonuspoints for automounting and autorunning the whole thing and publishing the resulting framework:-) Enjoy the weekend!
