Dear Adrien, there are two issues with your argument. 1 you assume there is a plasma upstream, in my opinion that stopped to be the case when kde neon was created. so just copying the "upstream settings" will not solve the issue.I know there are plenty of people who will disagree. but at the end I can see the broken eggs but I fail to see the omlette. the other issue does not matter how you will set the backend the applications will not look good. there is no amount of lipstick you can put on a pig to make it a unicorn. provide patches and bug reports but do not expect miracles. I have spent part of the morning testing the full wayland session coming from the scenario of a working machine properly setup kde x11. Experience was atrocious and that had nothing to do with packaging. (apps crashing, session not cleaned properly, unable to change resolution, ugly applications and some of them I know are upstream things, others which were new things, Fabian found out were upstream too). unfortunately time does not allow me to setup my machine with fedora and use it for few weeks to see what is the situation in there. In the past when I did this experiment the situation was the same. of course you can argue ad infinitum that my experience is not other users experience, cause I may need to start with a clean user, stand on one foot and have my hands in pocket. As far as user experience (including stability for both GTK & Qt applications), sustainability in view of upstream support, and performances: Unpatched > Full Wayland > Xwayland > X
Question: - Would the osPW packagers & maintainers be so kind as to make and provide a package offering Unpatched for the openSUSE community to test out, so as to adduce evidence for or against (1)?
If the answer to the question is 'Yes', I would be happy to collaborate closely with the osPW packagers & maintainers to ensure that the appropriate communication is done, so as to minimize bias risks and to make sure that consent or dissent are well-informed.
