Input from users is needed for that, to ensure that it doesn't introduce any regressions which force them away from the Wayland sessions again.
The alternative is to do a scream test: Switch the defaults and see whether someone complains.
I'm not opposed to either of those and would prefer a combination: Ask for feedback from testers, and if it's not enough, do the scream test. I'm more than happy to drop this, if it's the right time.
Why not introduce a third session type that goes with the upstream defaults? Then those who want can try it out without interfering with those that are happy with the existing session types, or prefer a more conservative or experimental KDE desktop. Eventually the community might converge on a session type, but currently things are still in flux and I guess it's hard to say which approach is the best. Best regards, Aaron
