Are there advantages of the DVD?
Oh, yes. For example, the current situation is that zypper dup from 12.3 to 13.1 will fail, unless you update certain packages in advance. The DVD upgrade to 13.1 removes certain items in fstab. Zypper dup doesn't, and has to be done by hand. There is also a problem with btrfs on /usr. On certain situations, when the user "destroys" his system, a DVD upgrade to the same version sometimes is capable or repairing it. The DVD is capable of upgrading from 32 to 64 bits. It is not a suported scenario, but it works. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
