When you reply to report some issues, make sure to change the subject. It is not helpful to keep the release announcement subject in a thread while discussing a specific problem.

kernel-source (4.8.14 -> 4.9.0)
lost internet connection during this update/grade re: previous msg about wpa_supplicant.
Got remote system, "toshiba", back up via physical access, completed the update and rebooted to new 4.9 kernel. Grub presents selection screen and selecting 4.9 kernel flashes screen and system reboots, and reboots and ...
Selected 4.8.14 kernel and system boot completes. Removed and reinstalled 4.9 kernel, but still cannot boot to it.
How to trouble shoot / where to look for problem?
exact same issue as described above, also on toshiba, thus far i cant boot into 4.9 kernel, other than kernel i have not seen any other issue.
There is a known RCU locking issue in 4.9 which wasn't fixed[1]. We need to backport the patch linked in that thread _ASAP_ because it's breaking anyone who's using the ath9k wireless driver. I don't know if that's what causing the issue for you -- but it is causing issues for people using Dell machines. Basically, it's a one-line patch. Should someone open a BZ about it, or does the kernel team already know about the issue?
