Dear All, A parent wants to give us some old machines from their accountancy practice. What I'm looking for is a product, device or procedure that will remove all data from their hard drives. Any suggestions? Thanks, Nigel Nigel Pauli St. John's School, Northwood

dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/hd? will do nicely, if fairly slowly. dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hd? will do the job much faster Then load up a DOS bootdisk, run "fdisk /mbr", and install your favorite OS. Alternatively, what's wrong with a simple format? There is a current thread on Slashdot about this. Thus there might be some useful ideas there. -- Mark Evans St. Peter's CofE High School Phone: +44 1392 204764 X109 Fax: +44 1392 204763
