[opensuse-edu] YaST Education module update
Hi all, Apologies for the silence. For anyone interested in an update on the progress of the YaST Education module, I invite you to check out [1]. Of course, you can always just skip to the Flickr gallery [2] to view the screenshots. I won't be insulted -- I would do it. =) After fighting the YaST Python bindings for a bit, I am on track and am currently finishing up the GUI screens. I am hoping by mid next week to have all reading/writing of the module configuration itself done and all screens fully working and (hopefully) bug free, and then it comes time to actually configure components such as Dansguardian, etc. You'll notice I don't have any server screenshots in my photostream. I had mentioned this earlier, but to reiterate, I want to get the desktop stuff out of the way first since it accounts for the majority of the module. I will then go back once I have all the desktop stuff working and fill in the server stuff. Don't worry, James. I haven't forgotten about you. =) If anyone has any suggestions or comments, feel free to send them along. Note that a few of the screens are work in progress, so ignore the aesthetic issues you see in the last two screens (access time restrictions and firewall). Thanks. Hi, is there any difference (or a linkage) between unix users/groups and users/groups in your Yast module? I did not catch anything from your screenshots, so now it seems to me you spent much time on duplicating of existing functionality (well, with slightly better UI ;-)). I have read the wiki [1], but it seems that you take care just about user/groups managing. Hi Michal, It appears that I saved my response to you as a draft and forgot about sending it. My apologies for that. I have integrated my response into this week's update on my blog. Please see [1] if you are still interested. Yes, the module works with Linux users/groups, but it only allows the creation/editing/deletion of users and groups that are defined in its configuration file to be "education" groups/users. So, for instance, groups like bin or daemon are not going to show up in the editor since those are not education groups. The idea is to keep things very simple here for parents/teachers who might have a relatively modest level of technical knowledge. Furthermore, as described in my blog post, there are a number of featurest that the YaST Users module simply does not offer (e.g. associating Sabayon/Kiosk tool profiles to groups; batch importing groups/users from CSV files) -- these features were expressed as being important to members of the community when I was doing my requirements gathering for the module. I should also mention that the wiki link you posted is quite outdated. I need to update that particular page, but in the meantime, my requirements document for the module is located at [2]. Let me know if you have any further questions. I will try to get something up there early next week. Admittedly, I have to review the transcripts of the build service packaging session from community week as I don't have much experience with oBS, but I will send out a message when it's up. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-edu+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-edu+help@opensuse.org

Can you send us a link to your sources? I can surely help you with packaging if I know where to find your sources and your OBS login... ;-) With kind regards, Lars -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-edu+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-edu+help@opensuse.org
