Re: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Re: Failed mail: Banned or potentially offensive material
hi all (and Liz) as far as i am aware none of main Educational Resellers we know and love are promoting a Linux solution over an NT one. However some are now pushing some Linux-based 'black-boxes' as thin-servers (for example the Netpilot from Equiinet and Cobalt's Qube) if anybody wants to let Becta know of a Linux-based solution they have implemented in a school, or if you are considering it we would be interested in hearing from you or helping you look forward to hearing more Malcolm ---------------------------------------------------------- Dr Malcolm Herbert Head of Technology R&D, Becta 02476 847126 ---------------------------------------------------------- Capitalism is using its money, we socialists throw it away - Fidel Castro 1964 -----Original Message----- From: Elizabeth Bentley <elizabeth@wardrobe.dircon.co.uk> To: suse-linux-uk-schools@suse.com <suse-linux-uk-schools@suse.com> Date: Sunday, June 25, 2000 11:33 Subject: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Re: Failed mail: Banned or potentially offensive material
Is there anything sinister about the rejection of this message? Not sure whether to smile or worry.
And thanks to all who replied already. I think we may stick with RM for the moment, but I'm going to try and experiment with Linux ready for the next time we have to make a decision. I'm also trying to push the idea of RM adopting Linux and the underlying server software rather than NT. Surely tha would save them money, as well as us.

We are currently running RM Connect, but are looking into the possibility of introducing a thin client server set-up, essentially to enable us to continue to run older machines such as 386s and Apple LCs, while updating software.
A major part of the cost will still be licences. So I am very attracted by the idea of Linux.
What are the possibilities? Can it be done, and if so which system be best?
I should greatly appreciate any help you can give me.
TIA
