Re: [opensuse-edu] Li-f-e 13.1

Sorry Lars, it's not clear to me. Are you trying to run epoptes[-server] and epoptes-client on the same machine?
Yes.
Why? Any testing purposes?
Yes. For testing and also for demonstrating. I like to present epoptes during presentations where I just have my poor Laptop available.
Since your setup is of standalone type, you should only install epoptes in your server and epoptes-client in your clients (it could be a VM, for example).
If you have updated epoptes package with my last additions, you need to enable manually the systemd service unit file for epoptes-server:
sudo systemctl enable epoptes-server.service sudo systemctl start epoptes-server.service
Very important information, thanks a lot! I will test this once I'm back at home at Sunday. Question: I did a quick search in the epotptes page and also in the README provided with the package. Even the man page is a bit small. I miss especially a quick start tutorial for beginners (teachers). I can try to write one - but as you see, I'm currently also unable to get it running on a standalone machine. :-\ Thanks for your help so far, Lars -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-edu+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-edu+owner@opensuse.org

Did this - and now I'm able to start the Client GUI! :-) But I do not see my local host, so I tried to start the epoptes-client: lars@travel:~> /usr/sbin/epoptes-client Epoptes-client connecting to localhost:789...[ OK ] Error: an inet prefix is expected rather than "::1". lars@travel:~> host localhost localhost has address 127.0.0.1 localhost has IPv6 address ::1 Does epoptes have problems with IPv6 enabled hosts? And FYI: I got the following warning if I start epoptes from the commandline: lars@travel:~> epoptes /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/epoptes/ui/gui.py:83: GtkWarning: Unknown property: GtkMenu.ubuntu-local self.wTree.add_from_file('epoptes.ui') Got clients: None ...but at least the GUI is there... I'm still unable to get epoptes connected on a FAT Client to 127.0.0.1 or even from another FAT Client to this one (after exchanging the SSL keys). Looks I've not enough knowledge here to get the software up and running in an usable way. :-( FYI: I forked the epoptes package to add a SuSEfirewall2 file which should make it easier to allow Port 789 via YaST - OBS request ID is 210958.
