Anyone here know which network card would be best used to try out thin client networking on my home LAN running from (probably) an old P90 or similar, around 16-32MB RAM? What other software do I need to get this to run? Thanks! Paul

Get a 100Mbit card. 3COM 3C950 (I think) is a really good one, but expensive, otherwise you can get cheap cards based on the RTL 8139/8129 chips, probably about #10 each.

XFree86 on the client machine, if you want graphics, NFS server and client. If you want to go *really* thin, look into network cards with Boot PROMs, and have a look at network booting. Otherwise, have your / partition on your local hard drive, and have everything else NFS mounted from your server (even X) - you'd want to put this into your /etc/fstab Dan - -- dankolb@ox.compsoc.net - --I reserve the right to be completely wrong about any comments or opinions expressed; don't trust everything you read above-- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 6.5.8 iQA/AwUBO97uu5dDUnce+EgsEQJNOgCfVyr0jafa8RepR8eafJVkoy+pDHsAn3kZ UU+iiHudsAGTTE0e0RifbfmK =XrBc -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

For a trial solution, even an old 10Mbps card will be fine. As long as it works, you can use it. Michael
