I suspect it's the spec of your hardware. You'll notice that you have the minimum amount of RAM recomended for using the GUI. The thing is that certain applications, like Netscape and StarOffice require a fair amount of system resources, especially if other apps are running at the same time... Your video card could also contribute to this effect, a 2 Meg card inevitably doesn't display as well as an equivilant card with more RAM.
