Re: [suse-linux-uk-schools] The secret diary of a Linux server builder aged 31 and 3/4
Can't get it to talk to the internet or my one connected PC.
These are probably 2 quite different problems - so you will have to take them one at a time. I would suggest solve one first, then think about the other (do not change too much in one go). With regards to the network : 1. Is your ethernet card detected ? What make is it ? There should be some messages on boot up about it if it was found ... try following to see your boot messages : #dmesg 2. How have you configured your networking ? Try following (and maybe send us in the output ... ?) # ifconfig 3. If all ok so far (you should probably have an entry for eth0 in your output of ifconfig) then, try pinging your local IP address. 4. If all ok - what is the situation with your client - do you know its networking is ok ? We would really need to know exactly what you have configured/tried before we can help. With regards to the internet : you have to setup ppp - again, you would have to provide details of exactly what you have tried, and what error message outputs you are getting. Kevin.
