Ok, pending any opinions to the contrary, schoolforge.org.uk will be the focus web presence. For those who want to get a better idea of how SchoolForge works, visit the international page: http://schoolforge.net We need someone to take on maintaining the website (which I guess can be based on the technologies used on the existing site, at least initially), and volunteers for all sorts of related activities, such as vetting companies/organisations who want to affiliate, acting as press contacts for specific publications, preparing press releases, etc. AFFS have kindly offered to host the website, along with the wiki. I think it will be of pressing importance to get and maintain UK case studies, and begin assembling content, preferably (strongly preferably!) linked to the English National Curriculum and other UK equivalents. It would also be particularly useful to make some content available in minority national languages (Welsh, Gaelic, Cornish) to underline the inclusive aspects of open source as a solution. And the proposed schedule? I'd want to see press releases with a embargo of 0100 on 25th April... Failing any objections, I will announce the founding of SchoolForge UK on the SchoolForge list at 1300 GMT today. Cheers Chris

Excellent Chris! I will negotiate the movement of the temporary website marker to a more permanent home. I would like to propose that membership is free and open to schools and individuals, but agree that organisations and companies need approval! We need to get as many people and schools signed up as possible. Maybe the smartgroup can be invited/ported? As for case studies, James Spredding is collecting some, there are some on the K12LTSP site and must be others. I guess the wiki is the perfect place to collect links to these. http://www.affs.org.uk/~mjr/wiki/ I will set up a page on the wiki now - for this and for volunteers to put in their abilities, offers, etc. ===== rgds, Richard Rothwell -------------------------------------------------------------------- You can always tell a good idea by the enemies it makes. - programmer's axiom __________________________________________________ Yahoo! You have a choice including: "df", "cat /etc/mtab" and "cat /proc/mounts". -- Mark Evans St. Peter's CofE High School Phone: +44 1392 204764 X109 Fax: +44 1392 204763

It seems that UKFSN.org donated space is closer to what is needed than our positive-internet donated space, so that's now underway, I understand. I'd be happy to help with press releases and press contacts, as I do for AFFS. I normally find the problem is beating enough information out of people to make a good press release ;-) Why 25 April with a 0000 embargo? Surely TES is a major publication we want to be ahead of deadline for? What else are people reading? I'll ask on the wiki. -- MJR http://mjr.towers.org.uk/ IM: slef@jabber.at This is my home web site. This for Jabber Messaging. How's my writing? Let me know via any of my contact details.
