What about non-KDE settings? e.g OpenOffice, Mozilla Firebird (proxy, etc.), wine? For the project at St Pauls, an entire school is moving to thin client Linux - in September only a room running Successmaker and a few office admin machines will still be Windows; by October there will be over 200 thin client Linux boxes, and by this time next year over 300 (including a living classroom of the future...). But no one who has done such a migration is posting any info online about mass configuration of apps (with the honourable exception of KDE!) or if they are they're hiding it well. Rest assured, once we've figured it out, Andy will be documenting everything ;-) and posting it on SchoolForge UK! ahve just created all the porfiles. But does anyone know to copy the KDE settings for all of them? Also does anyone know how lock KDE down so i can stop kids from putting back the buttons i dont want then to have? Cheers

I have some wrapper scripts for Mozilla which work reasonably well. But still more difficult than using lynx and mutt. OpenOffice can be more difficult, since it isn't always obvious where specific configuration data is stored and it isn't possible to use subsitutions such as "~" or environment variables.

Having originally had a global configuration file Wine has recently got rid of it. :( Another annoyance is needing to copy configuration files for various programs, including GIMP, since they have no obvious other way to set them to default to paper sizes used by most of the planet.

I have found that KDE has a tendency to redundently copy data from global configuration files into per user configurations. Which is at best annoying at worst causes problems. Because it dosn't appear to check modification times to work out which is most up to data.
