Re: [suse-linux-uk-schools] New version of CygXF86 install help
Tried the "check if xdm ....." commands on the server and got the same grey x windows with nothing on it apart form the cursor X. Under etc/X11 there is just the SUSE window manager. Is XDM then a package I just nned to install from the CDs? James
Yup. Follow the instructions in my posting (pasted again below for your convenience) and you should see the xdm login prompt instead (provided xdm is running on your server, of course: see point 2 for how to start it if it isn't)

What does the graphical login screen look like on the SuSE box itself? If you describe it, then we can probably work out which display manager you are running. Michael

An even more simple option would be to run "ps -aux |grep dm" Though SuSE tends to use kdm by default. -- Mark Evans St. Peter's CofE High School Phone: +44 1392 204764 X109 Fax: +44 1392 204763

Sorry about that. Obviously another irritating little difference between Suse and RedHat / Mandrake. But in general, once you've discovered which *dm you're running, you then need to look at its docs (or get help here) and do whatever is needed to make it serve remote logins.
